Miami Invisalign

Teenagers and adults of every age are choosing to straighten their teeth with the clear, removable aligner trays available with Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen® in Miami. These systems eliminate the hassles and discomfort that are typically associated with conventional teeth-straightening options. Ramon Bana, DDS, is a cosmetic dentist in Miami who helps his patients straighten their teeth discreetly using these innovative treatment systems. Once Dr. Bana’s patients complete their teeth-straightening treatment at Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry, they can smile, speak and laugh without feeling self-conscious.

What Is Invisalign?

The Invisalign and Invisalign Teen Systems use SmartTrack® Aligners and tooth-colored SmartForce® Attachments to straighten the teeth. The teen SmartTrack Aligners are unique in that they have tiny compliance indicators to ensure the patient’s treatment is on track.

Is Invisalign an Effective Teeth-straightening Option?

As long as patients follow their treatment plan, and attend their progress appointments at Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry, they can expect to accomplish the goals outlined in their custom-designed treatment plan.

Which Dental Issues Can Invisalign Address?

With Invisalign’s revolutionary SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments, this teeth-straightening system is ideal for addressing many dental issues.

Issues Dr. Bana frequently treats with SmartTrack Aligners:

  • Overlapping teeth
  • Misaligned jaws
  • Small gaps
  • Overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth

Some of the more complex dental issues, that Dr. Ramon Bana may be able to address with SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments:

  • Severe overbites
  • Medium and large gaps
  • Rotated teeth
  • Tooth Extrusions
  • Tooth Intrusions

If Invisalign’s SmartTrack Aligners with SmartForce Attachments are unable to address an individual’s dental issues, Dr. Ramon Bana may recommend a more appropriate treatment to help the patient accomplish his or her goals.

What Are the Health Benefits of Straight Teeth?

People with misaligned and crowded teeth frequently have difficulty with brushing and flossing effectively. Therefore, having straight teeth reduces the likelihood of developing gum disease and tooth decay.

Furthermore, the inability to properly care for their teeth could result in oral bacteria entering the bloodstream through an opening in the gum tissue. If these bacteria enter the bloodstream, health issues may arise. For example, these bacteria can trigger inflammation throughout the body, which may lead to narrowing of the arteries. This narrowing can cause the individual to have a stroke or a heart attack.

When the teeth are out of alignment, an individual may develop a temporomandibular disorder (TMD).

TMD can cause a variety of symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Clicking sounds while speaking, chewing or yawning
  • Jaw pain or tenderness
  • Inflammation in the area around one or both of the temporomandibular joints (TMJ)
  • A stiff jaw
  • Difficulty chewing
  • A jaw that locks in place (i.e., lockjaw)
  • Pain in one or both TMJ
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Aching pain in and around the ear
  • Aching pain in the face

Why Would Someone Prefer Invisalign to Traditional Metal Braces?

Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to straighten the teeth. This method for teeth straightening frequently rubs against the soft tissue in the mouth, causing irritation and sores to develop. Traditional metal braces are also highly visible and require frequent visits to the office for adjustments. Additionally, people who wear conventional braces must refrain from eating certain types of food (e.g., caramel, peanuts).

8 reasons people choose Invisalign:

1. The SmartTrack Aligners Are More Comfortable Than Traditional Braces

This is one of the top reasons patients prefer using the clear aligners over metal braces. Without the metal brackets and wires, patients can prevent the pain associated with the wires poking them in the mouth, resulting in sores.

2. SmartTrack Aligners Are Removable

While traditional metal braces require permanently affixing the brackets to each tooth with a special type of dental glue, SmartTrack Aligners are removable.

3. With Removable Aligners, the Teeth Are Easy To Clean

Some patients who decide to use traditional teeth-straightening methods find it difficult to care for their teeth during treatment. This difficulty stems from the need to care for their teeth differently than they did before receiving their metal braces. With traditional braces, patients need to thread floss under and through their wires. Neglecting to clean the teeth properly while wearing conventional metal braces can lead to white spots on the teeth. Without additional treatment (e.g., fluoride remineralization, professional teeth whitening), these white spots remain, indefinitely.

Since patients remove their SmartTrack Aligners before brushing and flossing, they can care for their teeth nearly the same way they did before starting treatment.

4. SmartTrack Aligners Are Translucent

Since these aligner trays are clear, as long as the patient cares for their aligners properly, they remain practically invisible.

5. Today, Invisalign’s Teeth-straightening System Can Address Nearly Any Dental Issue

Recent technological advancements have made this revolutionary system available to more patients than ever before. Whereas, previously traditional metal braces were required to treat the majority of complex dental issues, using SmartTrack Aligners with SmartForce Attachments allows Dr. Bana to address many of the more complex dental problems with the Invisalign Treatment System.

6. No Emergencies or Repairs To Worry About

With traditional metal braces, a bracket may loosen or a wire may fall off. Both of these issues require a visit to the office. However, since Invisalign patients receive a series of custom-tailored aligners, in the event of a problem (e.g., loss of the current aligner, a hole develops in the aligner) patients can just switch to the next aligner in their series. If the aligner the patient damages or loses is from a new set in his or her series, Dr. Bana may order a replacement aligner. However, patients can wear the next set of aligners until the replacement arrives.

7. SmartTrack Aligners Are Potentially a Quicker Method Than Traditional Braces for Straightening Teeth

Traditional metal braces take about two years to straighten the teeth. However, most of Dr. Bana’s patients complete their teeth-straightening treatment using SmartTrack clear aligners, with or without the addition of SmartForce Attachments, within a year.

8. SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments Allow Dr. Bana To Have Precise Force Control

When brackets control the amount of force placed on the teeth, it may be too rigid, causing root resorption or an issue related to the jawbone or gingival tissue. With SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments, Dr. Bana has more control over the amount of pressure placed on the patient’s teeth than is possible with the traditional teeth-straightening methods. In addition, he can control the movements of the patient’s teeth better with these aligners and attachments.

Who Are Good Candidates for Invisalign in Miami?

The number of people who are suitable candidates for treatment with this clear aligner teeth-straightening system has increased substantially. This increase in eligibility is due to the SmartForce Attachments. These tooth-colored attachments allow Dr. Bana to place a bit more pressure on the teeth that require additional attention.

An Initial Consultation for Invisalign in Miami

During their initial consultation, it is vital that patients inform Dr. Bana exactly what they would like to accomplish. At this appointment, Dr. Ramon Bana reviews the patient’s dental history and performs an oral exam. He may also take a series of X-rays and a 3D digital scan of the patient’s teeth.

To create the patient’s 3D digital scan, Dr. Bana uses the revolutionary iTero Element scanner. Using this scanner, he can show patients their current alignment and then how their teeth will move during treatment. Once the patient decides to use this clear aligner teeth-straightening system, Dr. Bana creates his or her customized Invisalign treatment plan.

A Custom-designed Treatment Plan for Invisalign in Miami

Dr. Bana also uses the information he gathers with the iTero scanner to determine how many sets of SmartTrack Aligner trays the patient needs and then orders the patient’s custom-tailored, computer-generated aligners.

To attain optimal results, Dr. Bana may also recommend that the patient have SmartForce Attachments placed on certain teeth.

Placing the Patient’s SmartTrack Aligners

When the patient’s aligners arrive, he or she returns to Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry to have the first set of aligners over the teeth. Dr. Bana makes sure that the aligners are a proper fit. At this time, Dr. Ramon Bana may also apply SmartForce Attachments.

During their treatment, patients should expect to return to Dr. Ramon Bana’s Miami office for check-ups. At these appointments, Dr. Bana examines the patient’s mouth to determine if he or she is ready to move on to the next set of aligners.

Do Patients Need To Wear Their Invisalign Aligners 24/7?

Since patients have to wear their aligners continuously, removing them only to eat, drink or brush and floss, patients should expect to wear their aligners from 20 to 22 hours a day.

What Happens if Patients Neglect To Follow Their Personalized Miami Invisalign Treatment Plans?

Patients who remove their SmartTrack Aligners too frequently can prolong their treatment time, or disrupt their treatment.

When Do Patients Begin To See Changes in Their Teeth?

Many of Dr. Bana’s patients start seeing changes several weeks into their treatment.

What Determines Length of Treatment With Invisalign?

Each patient is unique, therefore, the length of treatment varies. However, as long as the patient’s teeth are systematically moving into place, he or she can switch to the next set of aligners every week or two. If the patient stays on track, he or she may complete the SmartTrack Aligner teeth-straightening plan within six to 12 months. Nonetheless, extensive plans may take longer.

Why Would Invisalign in Miami Straighten Teeth Faster Than Traditional Braces?

Since Dr. Bana uses digital images from the iTero scanner while creating his patients’ teeth-straightening treatment plans, he can determine the ideal forces to place on the patient’s teeth. This precision allows the SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments to achieve the fastest results possible.

What Makes Practicing Good Oral Hygiene So Important During the Teeth-straightening Process?

Numerous bacteria reside in the mouth, and food debris serves as the perfect vehicle for additional bacteria to thrive. Therefore, any debris that remains trapped between the teeth, along the gingival tissue and on the tongue after eating must be removed via brushing and flossing. Neglecting to follow a daily dental hygiene routine allows the bacteria to multiply, creating colonies. These colonies cause vulnerable teeth to dissolve faster.

How Do Bacteria Damage Teeth?

After ingesting the food particles that are left behind, these bacteria evacuate acidic waste, which gradually breaks down the tooth enamel. Since the enamel protects the softer tissues inside the tooth, once this outer shell is compromised, the acids can quickly destroy these tissues. Unless an individual seeks treatment to address the loss of enamel, he or she may develop a painful tooth infection.

What Is the Best Way To Care for Teeth?

Brush and Floss at Least Twice a Day

Using fluoride toothpaste, gently brush twice a day. Patients should use a soft-bristled toothbrush, angling the bristles toward their gum line. Each brushing session must last two minutes. Most people choose to brush and floss before they head to bed and upon waking.

Brushing After Meals: What Patients Need To Know

About 30 minutes after eating something, Invisalign patients need to brush their teeth. If brushing is not an option, Dr. Bana recommends that patients rinse with water directly after eating and drinking beverages, other than water.

Waiting the 30 minutes after eating and drinking is crucial because during this timeframe, the acid level in the mouth is high, which means this is when the tooth enamel is the most vulnerable. However, 30 minutes is an ample amount of time for the teeth to remineralize themselves, which builds the enamel back up.

Clean Aligners Before Placing Them Back in the Mouth

One of the most common mistakes that patients make is placing their clear aligner trays in their mouth without cleaning them first. This mistake can be costly because there are bacteria on the aligners. If the patient neglects to clean the SmartTrack Aligners before placing them back in the mouth, these bacteria are placed directly on the teeth. These bacteria could begin damaging the enamel, which can lead to tooth decay or the development of an infection. Therefore, before patients place their SmartTrack Aligners back in their mouth, they must be clean.

Cleaning SmartTrack Aligners

Since the aligners must be removed prior to eating or drinking beverages, patients must have a way to clean their aligner trays following removal. Patients should use a soft-bristle toothbrush with tap water and soap to clean their aligners. Patients must clean in all the nooks and crannies in their SmartTrack Aligners.

How Patients Can Keep Their Aligners Fresh and Stain-free

Patients need to soak their SmartTrack Aligners at least once a day. Otherwise, food debris and bacteria can accumulate on them, causing discoloration, foul odors and tooth decay. The Invisalign Aligner Cleaning System is recommended for cleaning SmartTrack Aligners. However, there is also a cleaning foam available. Nonetheless, there are some DIY methods.

To remove the residue on their aligners, patients need to use a soft-bristle toothbrush with a product that kills bacteria.

Potential products for killing bacteria are:

  • Hydrogen Peroxide – Mix 1 cup of water with 1 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide and soak the aligners for 15 minutes. Patients should use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean the aligners before rinsing them thoroughly and placing them back in their mouth.
  • White Vinegar – Patients must only use white vinegar to sanitize their aligners because other variations (e.g., apple cider vinegar) could lead to staining. Mix a cup of water with a cup of vinegar and soak the aligners for 15 minutes. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, carefully clean the aligners and rinse them well before putting them back in the mouth.

Do Invisalign’s Clear Aligners Cause Mouth Pain?

Although these aligners do not have wires or brackets, each new set of aligners is tighter than the previous set. Since SmartTrack Aligners must apply pressure to move the teeth, a patient may experience some soreness around his or her teeth. For this reason, patients frequently change to their new set of aligners directly before heading to bed. This allows their mouth to adjust to the tighter aligner while they sleep. The soreness from new aligners lasts for a few days.

Addressing Tooth Discomfort

Drinking cold water or sucking on ice cubes can help soothe sore teeth. However, patients who choose to use ice must refrain from biting down on the cubes.

After Changing Aligners, Consider a Soft-food Diet for a Couple of Days

Some of Dr. Bana’s Invisalign patients eat a soft-food diet for a couple of days after they exchange their current aligners for a new set.

Over-the-counter Pain Medication May Help With Soreness

Over-the-counter medications can provide some relief. These medications are a great option for patients who are just starting their treatment with SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments.

When To Call Dr. Bana About Discomfort

If discomfort remains for more than three days, and all efforts fail in relieving the pain, the patient needs to contact Dr. Bana’s Miami office at (305) 857-3731. Dr. Ramon Bana can ascertain the reason a patient is experiencing pain and then help him or her find relief.

Following Treatment With Invisalign, Patients Maintain Their Results With Vivera Retainers

Once patients complete their teeth-straightening treatment plan using SmartTrack Aligners and SmartForce Attachments, they must keep their teeth from shifting back to their previous positions. To accomplish this, Dr. Bana takes 3D digital images of the patient’s mouth. These images allow the lab to create the patient a set of Vivera Retainers. Patients usually wear these retainers while sleeping. As time passes, Dr. Bana may modify a patient’s Vivera Retainer protocol, gradually reducing how often he or she needs to wear the retainer.

How Much Does Treatment With Invisalign Cost?

The cost of treatment depends on the needs of the patient. Dr. Bana determines the cost of an individual’s clear aligner teeth-straightening treatment plan during his or her consultation.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Treatment With Invisalign?

Dr. Bana recommends that his patients contact their dental insurance companies to find out if they will cover this SmartTrack Aligner and SmartForce Attachment teeth-straightening method.
